Key Lime Pie Official Dessert of the Conch Republic

The Key Lime Pie Origin in the Conch Republic

The key lime pie is known as the pride and joy as well as the un-doubtful national dessert of the conch republic. There is the history behind how the dessert came to be known as the national sweet joy of the nation. A close competitor of the pie is the strawberry shortcake. The first-ever bill was passed by the honorable senator Burgess to designate strawberry shortcake as Florida’s official dessert, which was denied heavily by the republicans. They wanted nothing but the pie to have its due place due to the fact that the key lime pie originates from the Florida Keys. The dessert was first introduced in the state of Florida.

When was the Key Lime Pie invented?

The pie was invented as a result of a condensed milk advertisement published by Borden, at the time it was known as:

“Magic Lemon Cream Pie”

Because of the ingredients that went into the making of the pie and how easy it was. The original recipe that is believed to be introduced by Aunt Sally dates all the way back to even before the 1800s. The recipe was originally recognized by a rich mansion owner who had the recipe by sally hung up on his kitchen wall. Although the actual origin is unknown the lime pie, has, however, existed far longer.

What is the reason strawberry shortcake could not replace the key lime pie?

The reason is simple and quite obvious, since the pie originates and even got its name from the Florida Keys the shortcake is the complete opposite. It was not invented in the nation, nor was it given the name by anyone living in the Keys. Deep affiliation and affection regarding the pie that has been instilled in the republican’s heart, mind, and soul prevent them from giving the sweet spot to any other dessert. Although the shortcake is enjoyed by the state republicans as well it does, however, not qualify as worth being given the name of the national dessert.

When was the key lime pie introduced as the State dessert?

The Key lime pie was introduced as the national dessert of the conch republicans in the year 2006 by the Official State Pie of Florida. On the date of March 1st in a meeting, it was decided that key lime pie will be the official state dessert. It was recognized as the de facto state dessert for sixteen years straight whereas the shortcake has never in its existence received a de facto state designation.

Who holds the current record key lime pie title?

The current record title of the key lime pie is held by none other than the State of Florida. The nation takes pride in this decision and achievement of theirs. They feel that no other should be deserving of this title other than the nation of the Florida Keys.

The different places where the Floridian dessert has been served and gained deserved recognition are:

  •      Pies to Key West

  •      Pies to Boston

  •     To Atlanta

  •     To the Governor in Tallahassee

  •     The Show Good morning America

You might ask yourself what is so special about the dessert other than the fact that it

originates from Florida? Well, the citrusy dessert

reminds the people of fresh air, the beautiful golden sun, the fresh breeze, refreshment

and it adds to the tropical experience affiliated with the state of Florida. This dessert

represents the state unlike any other ever could.
If compared with the strawberry shortcake, you will find out that a sweet and sugary

dessert is nothing compared to one that adds depth to the name and facts related to

the conch republic. The facts are undeniable. The dessert is also celebrated in a song

by the infamous Kenney Chesney. In the song, the key lime pie is addressed as a sweet

memory that cannot be forgotten. Affiliated with the memories worth remembering when

reminiscing about the state.

"NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA: STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE SHALL BE DESIGNATED FLORIDA’S OFFICIAL CAKE, AND KEY LIME PIE SHALL REMAIN FLORIDA’S OFFICIAL PIE. TOGETHER THEY CAN SHARE THE LIMELIGHT AS FLORIDA’S OFFICIAL DESSERTS."

If Senator Burgess and the residents of Plant City contest this bill, the dispute shall be settled under the official bi-laws of the Conch Republic requiring a duel at high noon between the Vice Mayors of Key West and Plant City, each armed with only their favorite dessert.

What is so special about the Key Lime Pie?

The Original Key Lime Pie Recipe:

The Key lime Pie is a fruity dessert pie made with a baked crust, a cream filling which is also baked then it is topped off with a meringue (which is blowtorched) or whipped cream. Lime slices or wedges are added as decoration on the top.

Following is a list of ingredients that are added to the key lime pie in order to make it.

  • The crust: Butter, graham cracker biscuits, Sugar

  • The Pie Filling: Egg yolks, a can of condensed milk, juice of a lime

  • The meringue: Egg whites and sugar-water mixture

How to make the pie?

To make the crust crush some biscuits and sugar, mix them together in a bowl, add melted butter then put the mixture in a pan and pat down with a spoon. Put it in the oven to bake

As for the pie filling mix together four egg yolks and leave the whites for the meringue, squeeze in the juice of a lime and add a can of condensed milk, whip everything together and add it to the crusted pan, then pop the pan in the oven to bake for at least twenty minutes.

In the meanwhile get prepping with the meringue, take the egg whites and equal parts sugar-water mixtures in a bowl, whip them together till thick foam forms, keep on whipping till the foam turns to cream-like textures (in order to know that it is done flip the bowl upside down and if nothing falls out the meringue is ready). Place the meringue over the cooled pie and blow-torch it.

 ENJOY!

Is it necessary to bake the pie?

For a while in the beginning it was thought that the citrus from the lime was enough to cook the pie but it is now a known fact that to prevent the pie from being unsafe for most people you should bake it for at least twenty minutes to enjoy it wholeheartedly.
